Port is one of the most important stages of the Baltic Sea region’s passenger and cargo transfer traffic network. It includes number of terminals. which provide various types of cargo stevedoring services as well as passenger port/terminal . It is located on both banks of the river Daugava, and stretches on 15 km. It is open for navigation all year round. Port’s total area is 6,348 ha, while water area is 4386 hectares and length of berths is 13.8 km. Port terminal cargo handling capacity is 45 m tons per year.
10. 06. 2005, management of the port Riga was granted with ISO 14001: 2004 quality certificate.
Port also works with all kinds of cargo – general, liquid, bulk, containers, various metals, timber, coal, mineral fertilizers, chemical cargoes and oil products. Freeport have 32 stevedore companies and 35 shipping agents. More details can be viewed here.
